and Roots of the Florussen Family

Son of Johan Florussen, Joop Florussen was born in Afferden (Gelderland), The Netherlands on 28th February 1934,in the family farmhouse on the Koningstraat.

Joop was one of many children in the Florussen household so spent much of his youth growing up with the

family across the road

Career

After an apprenticeship as a cabinet maker, Joop spent most of his life working for various companies as a carpenter and even building the family home in Mangere, New Zealand .

Personal life

In 1953 Joop Florussen met Elizabeth van Beek Hunter, who lived in Rotterdam so his motorbike came in handy, and they ultimately married in 1958. They had five children, Christa, Richard, Maryann, Walter and Michael.

Legacy of Joop Florussen

Throughout his life Joop was a hard working and caring father. His decision to venture out into the world and build a new life with his wife eldest son and daughter was one that brought him to New Zealand where 3 more children were born but ultimately after nearly 17 years he returned to The Netherlands. His children now live with their families either in New Zealand or The Netherlands.
